coir pith or coco peat: coir pith is a highly porous substance generated during the extraction of coconut fibers from the husk. These husks are being utilized as a raw material for the production of coir fiber. During the extraction of coir fiber from the husk, a light weight spongy material is being released called coir pith, which accounts 50-60% of the total mass of the husk. It is a light weight spongy material, and has protein in substantial amount. And also spongy material has highly significant and unique water holding capacity(6-8 times of its weight), and is extremely compressible. The ph and electrical conductivity (ec) were analysed in the sieved coir pith during sequential washing.
