Barite is a mineral extracted by mining. It is the sulfate of barium, has the chemical formula BaS04 this is virtually insoluble in water and contains 65.7 percent Barium oxide (BaO) and 34.3 percent sulfur trioxide (SO3). The name is derived from Greek word “Barus” meaning Heavy for its high specific gravity which is unusual for a non-metallic mineral. It is also known as Barytes or heavy spar in commerce. Barite may occur as both sedimentary and intrusive rocks. In sedimentary form, the content of heavy metals is normally lower than intrusive deposits. Chemical analyses have established substantial differences in heavy-metal content between the various mines used. Pure barite is white and opaque to transparent. Due to contained impurities occurs the grey, black, brown, red, blue and green barite. Our Speciality: Infimerx Pvt Ltd procures premium quality API standard Barite from Southern India and markets in lump, crushed or ground-form globally. Our barite comprises of least possible heavy metal content and is cost effective. Our Quality control operators ensures that the quality of barite delivered accords with the technical and heavy metal content requirement. Our barite is globally accepted for its quality and extremely low soluble chemically inert behaviour and cost-effective weighting agent. Uses Barite is mostly used as a weighting material in drilling fluids for its high density, virtual insolubility in water and low toxicity. Barite is been used as a pigment or extender in paints. Few Glass industries have been using for production of glass, as barite acts as a flux and makes the glass more brilliant and workable. Barite has the unique ability to strongly absorb x-rays and gamma rays and is consequently used in medical science for x-ray tests om the intestines and colon. Barite is also mixed with cement to make special containers used to store radioactive materials. Recently it’s been used in the production of brake pads for cars and trucks. Beyond this barite is used as an additive to paints, enamels and plastics in the production of so called “lead” crystal or “Leaded” glass and as a source of barium chemicals.
